MetroLacrosse is a Boston-based organization that uses sports to develop youth in underserved communities. MetroLacrosse's original goal was to diminish the disparity between sports programs available to Boston's urban youth as compared to their suburban counterparts. MetroLacrosse recognized the opportunity to achieve a more profound impact on urban youth: to inspire, motivate, and support participants to achieve success both on and off the field.

In 2010, our lax league FGLL initiated a relationship with MetroLacrosse and will be making a donation on behalf of all FGLL players!  In addition to the financial support, MetroLacrosse was very interested in games with FGLL teams.

With the goal of providing DS players with a broader perspective on this great game, we scheduled games in Chelsea and Dorchester in May 2010.  Our girls had a great time!

After the games, we received an awesome email from one of the Dorchester coaches:

“I wanted to let you know what a joy it was to play against your girls.  We have really worked on teaching sportsmanship to our ladies and your team was the definition of it.  After the game we had a quick debrief and I asked the team what they thought of your girls.  They said they were confused because while they were playing really hard, they were making friends and even complementing the good play of the metro team.  I think that was the first time that they played a team that consistently played hard but stayed positive and friendly.  It made for a really great (and simple) teaching moment about how sportsmanship and competition are not mutually exclusive.”

As parents and coaches, we strive to create great athletes and players, but in the end, we are developing something even more important… great girls.
